Bali Island, the perfect holiday destination for all ages offers something for everyone. Bali offers not just various customs but also various "adrenalin pump" parks. Many exciting amusements are available in Bali, with something new opening all the time. The number of offshore and inland attraction are on the rise because many tourists want them. This tropical paradise has a unique blend of modern tourist facilities combined with wonderful shopping and a rich past and heritage. After white water rafting that has gained popularity in Bali, comes offshore rafting or ocean rafting. The more adventurous sort of amusement has now become an alternative sport for tourists. Meanwhile white water rafting is still a popular activity with trips on Ayung, Telaga Waja, Unda Rivers, etc. The tourists can refresh their mind by watching beautiful scenery along the route. Those are not enough, some of the best surfing beaches in the world can be found on the western side of the island whilst conversely the eastern side is a wonderful haven for families, with beautiful white sand beaches and gentle seas.

Bali is small island, just 140 Km by 80 Km and lies between Java, the most highly populated and influential of all the islands, and Lombok, one of the quieter and moderately slower paced islands. Like many islands, Bali has developed a world of its own. It not only captures what is special about Indonesia but also has a uniqueness of its own.

The culture of Bali is unique. People say that the Balinese people have reached self-content. The Balinese people are proud of having preserved their unique Hindu culture against the advance of Islam, the dominant religion throughout Indonesia. This is still reflected in days to day life and can be seen in the numerous ceremonies, Balinese festivals and magnificent temples and palaces. The Balinese are skilled artisans, particularly in woodcarving and in fashioning objects of tortoiseshell and of gold, silver and other metals. The Balinese are noted for their traditional dance, the distinctive music of the gamelan and for their skills in weaving cloth of gold and silver threads, Songket, as well as for embroidering silk and cotton clothing. Stone and woodcarvings, traditional and modern paintings and intricately designed jewelry in gold and silver are readily available in shops and galleries throughout the island.

As for recreation, there is no shortage of options. Nature walks, horseback riding, diving, surfing - even bungy jumping and white water rafting - await the adventurous here.

Geographically
Bali is volcanically active and extravagantly fertile. Bali has an area of 5620 sq km, measures approximately 140 km by 80 km and is just 8 degrees south of the equator. Mount Agung known as the 'mother mountain' is over 3000 meters. South and north of the central mountains are Bali's fertile agricultural lands. The southern region is a wide, gently sloping area where most of Bali's abundant rice crop is grown. The south-central area is the true rice basket of the Island. The northern coastal strip is narrower, rising more rapidly into the foothills of the central range, but the main export crops, coffee, copra and rice, are grown here. Cattle are also raised in this area.

Bali has a climate that is tropical all year. The average temperature hovers around 30 degrees Celsius year-round. There are dry and wet seasons -dry from April to September and wet from October to March- but it can rain at any time of year and even during the wet season rain is likely to pass quickly. In general May to August are the best months in Bali. At that time of year the climate is likely to be cooler and the rains lightest. Around the coast, sea breezes temper the heat and as we move inland we also move up so the altitude works to keep things cool. It can get very cool up in the highlands and a warm sweater can be a good idea in mountain villages like Kintamani or Bedugul.

Population
With 2.5 million people, Bali is a very densely populated island. The population is almost all Indonesian, with the usual small Chinese contingent in the big towns, a sprinkling of Indian merchants, plus a number of more or less permanent visitors amongst the Westerners in Bali.

Culture
Each stage of Balinese life is marked by a series of ceremonies and rituals known as Manusa Yadnya. They contribute to the rich, varied and active life the average Balinese leads. There are ceremonies for every stage of Balinese life but often the last cremation ceremony is the biggest. A Balinese cremation can be an amazing, spectacular, colorful, noisy and exciting event. In fact it often takes so long to organize a cremation that years have passed since the death. During that time the body is temporarily buried. Of course an auspicious day must be chosen for the cremation and since a big cremation can be very expensive business many less wealthy people may take the opportunity of joining in at a larger cremation and sending their own dead on their way at the same time. Brahmans, however, must be cremated immediately. Apart from being yet another occasion for Balinese noise and confusion it's a fine opportunity to observe the incredible energy the Balinese put into creating real works of art which are totally ephemeral. There are a lot more than a body gets burnt at the cremation. The body is carried from the burial ground (or from the deceased's home if it's an 'immediate' cremation) to the cremation ground in a high, multi-tiered tower made of bamboo, paper, string, tinsel, silk, cloth, mirrors, flowers and anything else bright and colorful we can think of. The tower is carried on the shoulders of a group of men, the size of the group depending on the importance of the deceased and hence the size of the tower. The funeral of a former rajah high priest may require hundreds of men to tote the tower.

Taman Ayun Temple

A. Brief Information

Taman Ayun Hindu Temple in Badung District was built in 1634 A.D. by the king of Mengwi Kingdom, I Gusti Agung Ngurah Made Agung titled Ida Cokorda Sakti Belambangan. The Mengwi Kingdom was one of the most powerful kingdoms in Bali at the time until 1891 A.D. Built as worship place for royal family and their relatives, the building uses Gunung Batukau architecture rather than Gunung Agung architecture that was commonly applied at most of Indonesian Hindu temples.

“Taman Ayun” means beautiful garden. It is on a tableland of four ha wide surrounded by ponds. Viewing from afar, it seems floating above the water. Surrounded by leafy trees and colourful flower garden, the complex of Taman Ayun Hindu Temple offers a magnificent view.

Comprising three buildings, it is usually visited by more and less 300 – 600 tourists, either domestic or foreign tourists, in a year. The first building is an opened space for any kinds of religious event and art performances. Here, you can watch a sumptuous meru (pagoda which has multi-roofed structure, typical of Balinese Hindu Temple). The second building is the main building named Bale Pelik which is fully decorated with artistic carving, relief and a wonderful statue of Deity Nawa Sanga. The innermost buildings in the complex are the sacred buildings of Hindu people that are dedicated to god and goddess of Hindu.

B. Distinctive Features

Taman Ayun Hindu Temple had ever been recommended as a valuable world heritage. On March 12th 2008, the Director of UNESCO, Kokhiro Masura visited the location to check directly, whether it is proper to achieve the status as above. He argued that this Hindu temple is proper to get such status. Now, this 400 years old Hindu temple is still used as worship place by Hindu people.

The properties of the Mengwi Kingdom can still be found nearby the location, about 300 meters from the location. The Museum of Manusa Yadnya is also located nearby Taman Ayun Hindu Temple. The museum displays some ceremonies relating to human‘s life circle starting from birth to death.

Sanur Beach

A. Brief Information

Sanur Beach, one of the beautiful beaches in Bali Island, offers a panoramic view since a long time ago. Historically, on an inscription written at the tenure of King Kasari Warmadewa (917 A.D.) in Singhadwala Palace, it is stated that the beauty of Sanur Beach has been discovered at the time. Now you can still find the inscription in the southern direction of Sanur Beach in Blanjong Village.

During the colonial government of Dutch occupied Indonesia, Sanur Beach was functioned as the Dutch‘s harbor where they sent the Dutch fleet admiral to attack Badung Kingdom, which was regarded as mutinous kingdom. A war on November 18th 1906 A.D. which was commonly called Puputan Badung was a war to defend motherland Indonesia from the Dutch without fear, though the death was a choice. The war was historically led by Badung King who was helped by local people at the time.

Based on tourism view, Sanur Beach started to be known by international world by a Belgium painter named A.J. Le Mayeur, who later on resided and built painting workshop there, in 1932 A.D. He got married with a famous legong dancer namely Ni Nyoman Pollok, who was also known as his painting model. By his paintings, Le Mayeur started to introduce Sanur Beach to international world and also built a museum nearby the beach named the Museum of Le Mayeur.

B. Distinctive Features

While Kuta Beach offers you with magnificent view of sunset, Sanur Beach gives you a panoramic view of sunrise along the tortuous sandy beach of Sanur. At morning, while delighting in wonderful scenery of sunrise along the coast, seems Nusa Penida Island in the southeastern direction of the beach.

Moreover, the scenery of Sanur Beach at evening is just the same as at morning. Since the water is going to ebb, you can brightly see Serangan Island and a group of coral reef in the south. When the wave is not too high, you will be offered with a splendid view of colorful coral reef on the transmarine.

Besakih Temple

A. Brief Information

The island of Bali is famous for a number of temples, about11.000 temples; thus people call it as the “Island of Thousands Temples.”

One of the biggest temples and the mother temple called Besakih is located on the foothill of Mount Agung, the highest mount in Bali. The mount is a sacred place for people settling around it.

One story discloses about the origin of Besakih Temple. It said that the temple remained untouched when Mount Agung erupted on March 17th 1963 (other records mention the mount erupted on March 18th 1963), meanwhile the villages around the mount were all died. Such an outstanding fact seems to be out of sense as the temple is just one kilometre away from the mountain, but it really happened.

The word “besakih” is derived from ancient Javanese words “wasuki” or “basuki” that means salvation. Its existence, likewise, is often associated to a figure Basuki Dragon that is believed to be alive amongst the people settling around the mount at pre-Hinduism era. Because of its holiness, you must wear the Balinese sarong to enter the temple.

B. Distinctive Feature

Besakih Temple is a worship place consisting of 22 temples. Some ancient monuments of megalithic age such as Menhir, Tahta Batu and pyramidal terrace are the bases for archaeologists to assume that the temple finished being built in 1000 years.

The temple was built based on the concept Tri Hita Karana, a Hindu concept on the balance between human, nature, and God. The temple‘s structure itself was set as such, precisely faces to mandala (the west, south, east, and north), to represent the nature balance. There is a belief amongst the Balinese people that Catur Lokapala is the guardian of the temple. The biggest temple called Penataran Agung Besakih lies in the center point of mandala, and is an offering to Siwa.

Gelap Temple, which is east of Penataran Agung Besakih Temple, is a tribute to Iswara; while Kiduling Kereteg Temple, south of Penataran Agung Besakih Temple, is a tribute to Brahma. Ulun Kulkul Temple, which is a tribute to Mahadewa, stands west of Penataran Agung Besakih Temple; and Batumadeg Temple, north of Penataran Agung Besakih Temple, is a dedication to Wisnu.

Besakih Temple offers you the sensation of religious tourism. Religious ceremony is often held in the complex. One of them is Ekadasa Rudra ceremony that is held every 100 years. The last Ekadasa Rudra was held in 1979.

Likewise, you can watch the typical architecture of Balinese cultural civilization and numerous historical properties there. For you who love climbing, you can take an escapade tour to Mount Agung.

Kuta Beach

>> Monday, 2 February 2009

Kuta start known when traders from Denmark to open trade offices here. Trade relations between the representatives involved in trade with the original population and growing very rapidly.

New start in 1930 a pair of husband and wife origin California United States is very impressed with the beauty of the Kuta beach that time is not touchable human intervention, alias still natural. Kuta Beach Hotel is the first hotel that stands in this area, but I have to be closed because of the Japanese invade island of Bali at the time. In 1960 when many tourists who have to stop in Australia in Bali for a trip to Europe, the more famous Kuta start again. In its development, the more interesting areas of Kuta visit the tourists not only from Australia, but also from many other parts of the world.

Stand fast with the various hotels along the coastal area of Kuta. Usually hotels dikawasan this international or at least an international hotel group. From the beginning of the end of the Kuta beach there is a B each Inna Kuta Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel, Mercure Hotel, etc.. Also stands a very comfortable lodging a stylish boutique resort that is KulKul Nature Boutique Resort.

Time in the most bustling Kuta beach areas is in the afternoon or at sunset (sunset). All foreign tourists whether local or gathered into one here. Moreover, there are special moments, moments in the country, such as school holidays, vacation Lebaran Idul Fitri holidays or new year, can be ascertained that the crowd becomes.

In Kuta beach visitors can make surfing, playing soccer, playing kites, fall down just in the warm beach sand, or wash the eyes see the bule sunbathing tourists. If interested in the service cowlick hair or making temporary tattoo, it can also be obtained at this beach.

the others paper from baliblog-->

Kuta is a former fishing village, it was one of the first towns on Bali to see substantial tourist development, and as a beach resort remains one of Indonesia’s major tourist destinations. It is known internationally for its long sandy beach, varied accommodation, many restaurants and bars, and convenience to Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport.

In the early ’70’s surfers, hippies and adventurous travelers made it to Kuta Beach, with its perfect coastline, simple guest houses and bamboo warungs. In the early days there were few creature comforts for visitors, with rice, fish and fruit making up a large part of the diet. Cooking oil was also a luxury, so coconut oil was used, giving the food a less than delicate flavour. Pork fat could be substituted, although not entirely the healthy was to go.

In the early days of Kuta tourism a few enterprising people set up warungs to serve the growing tourist market. Among the most successful were Made’s Warung (Jl. Pantai Kuta) and Poppies Restaurant (off of Poppies I), both still in business. Another long time favourite is TJ’s (Poppies I), owner Jean starting out with a vegetarian restaurant and moving to Mexican food in 1984.

Kuta is now the center of an extensive tourist-oriented urban area that merges into the neighboring towns. Legian, to the north, is the commercial hub of Kuta and the site of many restaurants and entertainment spots. Most of the area’s big beach-front hotels are in the southern section of Tuban.

Legian and Seminyak are northern extensions of Kuta along Jl. Legian and Jl. Seminyak. They are somewhat quieter suburbs with cottage-style accommodations, where many of the expat crowd live. Also to the north are Petitenget, Berawa, Canggu, and Seseh - new and quieter continuations of Kuta’s beach. They are easy to reach through Abian Timbul or Denpasar and Kerobokan. Several large hotels are located in this area: the Oberoi Bali, Hard Rock Hotel Bali, the Intan Bali Village, the Legian in Petitenget, the Dewata Beach and the Bali Sani Suites in Berawa. To the south, Kuta Beach extends beyond the airport into Jimbaran.

Kuta is just 2 miles from Ngurah Rai airport in Tuban, making it an ideal first night for many visitors. An airport taxi might cost around 25,000rp, dropping you in the Poppies Lane / Benesari area, with a choice of budget / mid-range accommodation.

After the 2002 Sari Club / Paddy’s Bar bombing, Kuta’s nightlife hit the skids. Seminyak seemed to be charging ahead with new bars opening, some of which were conspicuously open at the front, allowing easy escape should there be another bombing. Kuta’s location however meant that was due for a rebound, so with MBarGo, Hook, The Wave, the new Paddy’s, Sky Lounge and other venues, Kuta is a strong contender for nightlife action.

One of the fun ways to check out the neighborhoods in Bali, including Kuta is by using Wikimapia.org. This site allows you to zoom in and out and check out the area. You might spot a few places you’ve been before. Kuta may not look like the French Riviera, but real estate is worth top dollar. In fact most landowners in Kuta will not sell, realizing that times may change, but the location will always mean business. Some long term expats still live in the Tuban, Kuta, Legian area, feeling at home with neighborhood and comfortable living close to the friends they have developed over the years.

Kuta may not be paradise, but it is not the hell hole some travellers make it out to be.

Once in-diksa, Danghyang Dwijendra given the task of implementing dharmayatra as one of the requirements kawikon. Dharmayatra this should be implemented on the island of Bali, with a very heavy task of managing the life of the law and religious tradition, especially on the island of Bali. When it is necessary dharmayatra can be forwarded to the Sasak and Sumbawa Island.

Danghyang Dwijendra come to Bali Island, first set foot on the fringe of the southwest coast of Jembrana to rest a moment before continuing journey dharmayatra. After some time living there, he felt got a call from the Creator Hyang to immediately return amoring acintia Parama MOKSHA. This is where Ida Pedanda Sakti Wawu remind Rauh (icang eling) with Samaya (promise) to return himself to his home. That is where this event called Cangeling and slowly become Cengiling until now.

In this place, and then built a temple called the Temple fungus. The name is derived from the word ngulati. Temple is located in the Village Pecatu.

While running to get the new location that is considered eligible for Parama MOKSHA, Ida Pedanda Sakti Wawu Rauh very sad and crying in batinnya. Why? Because he was not willing to leave this world sekala not be perceived as swadharmanya thoroughly, that is life up in the Hindu religion Sasak and Sumbawa. Ida Pedanda Sakti Wawu Rauh not also find places that are considered appropriate for the Parama MOKSHA. He then arrived at a place full of stones. He was only alone. In this place, and established a temple called the Temple Diyi stones. Also in this place Danghyang Dwijendra feel less safe for Parama MOKSHA. Travel with a fairly tiring holding hunger and thirst, he eventually arrived in the area that always gets bebukitan sun blazing. Memayungi for themselves, he sebidang take a leaf beetle and trying to get drinking water source. After circling not find the source of drinking water, eventually Danghyang Dwijendra stick tongkatnya. So come out amertha water. Ago in this place was established a temple called Pura Payung the source of water used means tirtha until now.

So he find a place to rest. Saking lelahnya-up until he was quiet (bed). Ago in this place was established a temple called the Temple Parerepan (parerepan means pasirepan, lodging place) located in the Village Pecatu.

In this place now stand up to a temple called Pura Pangleburan located in Banjar Adat Pecatu Kauh Village. After the cleanse itself, to continue his journey to the location of the tip of the southwestern island of Bali. This place is made up of stones cliffs. When observed from below the sea surface, visible bertindih each other, sit-shaped head on a stone-stone cliffs, the altitude of between 50-100 meters from the sea surface. With so-called Uluwatu. Ulu Watu and the means means stone.

Before Danghyang Dwijendra Parama MOKSHA, he called the boat skipper who took him from the island of Sumbawa to Bali. Skipper of the boat named Ki Pacek Nambangan boat. Sang Pandita resort in order to bring the boat skipper and tongkatnya clothes to his wife in the fourth Pasraman in Griya Mas Sakti Banjar Pule, Mas village, Ubud, Gianyar. The park accommodates an amazing display of flora with more then 2000 tropical plants including 50 varieties of palms alone and attracting numerous butterflies.

Incorporating a breeding, research and veterinary facility within the complex, the park has a high success rate in the captive reproduction of exotic birds such as the Bird. of Paradise and Hornbill.
