Waicak Ceremony
>> Thursday, 5 February 2009
Waiçak is the religious Buddhist ceremony commemorating Buddha Gautama's birth, death, and accession. It is held in most Buddhist viharas all over Indonesia, particularly Yogyakarta. The greatest ceremony is held during the full moon or “Purnama Sidhi” evening in May at the Mendut and Borobudur temple, approximately 42 kilometres from Yogyakarta. Many Buddhist followers always attend the ceremony from Indonesia, beside some other Buddhist came abroad.
